Obituary of William John Nash
It is with great sadness the family announces the death of William John Nash (Jack) at the age of 87 on Monday, September 23, 2023.
Jack was born in Toronto on April 20, 1936, the second of four boys to Fred and Nita Nash. Brother to Ken (Annette), Harry (Grace) and Bob (Carole).
A devoted father, he is survived by his former wife Eleanor (née Hargrave) and his four children Cheryl (André), Sandra (Rob), Jo-Ann (Rob), Mike (Heather) and grandchildren Bronwyn, Griffin, Cate, Russell, and Julia. He also had special relationships with Zoe (Miguel) and Jake (Gryffin). All of whom will miss him dearly.
He was a proud alum of Danforth Tech where he played varsity football, basketball and discovered his love for barbershop music. Moving to Ottawa, he maintained his athletic pursuits at the downtown Y where he trained for an Ottawa marathon. Fond memories of Christie Lake in the summer and Tremblant in the winter, he was both a lifelong athlete and sports fan. An enthusiastic member of the Capital City Chorus for 57 years and a respected manufacturers’ agent servicing the Canadian furniture industry, he was a supportive friend and valued mentor to many.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Ottawa Civic Hospital & The University of Ottawa Heart Institute. A special, heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lindsay Bartlett and to Michael and the rest of the staff at the Westwood.
A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held at the Britannia Yacht Club, 2777 Cassels Street, on Sunday, November 19th from 3 - 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Smitty through BGC Ottawa at bgcottawa.org. in his name.
Sing your heart out, Dad! We know there’s a chorus in heaven.
