My name is Michael. I’m in the furniture business and so was Jack.
Jack Nash was fortunate to have been a furniture guy … it is a good business. As a group the furniture business seems to attract good people. Jack exemplified that characteristic.
I met Jack about 35 years ago.
To me he was an inspiration. I have no idea whether he knew he was.
He always showed up. He respected himself and the people around him. I never heard him say anything critical of others. …Though he was not always treated well by circumstances. He and I had some long chats where we would share stories and experiences — and still he never spoke ill of others to me. He evinced no bitterness. One would think he would be justified but he wasn’t that kind of man.
He was professional and he was always impeccably dressed. He always looked comfortable wearing a suit and shirt and tie. …Not everyone does. He liked his work and worked still when he might have been retired.
There were experiences he had as a boy that I had as a boy that were identical except he lived in Toronto where he grew up and mine were in Ottawa. So I’ll share one. I don”t think he’d mind.
Near his house was a bakery. He told me that sometimes someone inside would put a pie on a windowsill. The sill though was out of reach for him and his pals. So Jack was volunteered to sit on one of the other kids shoulders and reach for the pie. He said “Boy those pies sure tasted good.”
He and I shared a conspiratorial laugh I remember, when I told him the Rideau Bakery was near where I went to school and me and my schoolmates did the same thing. I said “Boy those pies sure tasted good.” I liked to hear about his boyhood adventures.
His big love was his family. He was proud of everyone of them. HIs grandkids surely delighted him.
And of course he loved to sing.
I always felt better after spending time with him. He was that kind of man. I got to know him. I never met anyone who knew Jack that didn’t smile when his name came up. Jack knew the furniture business inside out. Jack had lots of anecdotes about how the furniture business was way back in the 1960s. Those were heady times he said. I can imagine.
He was loyal and honest. The two brothers he worked for loved him. And so did their sons —cousins who took over from their dads when they retired. One of the cousins said to me “Too bad there weren’t more Jacks.” Well said.
He was that kind of man. Too bad there weren’t more Jacks.

I was crushed to get the news of Jack's passing! I have known Jack most of my life- he was a dear friend of my Mom and Dad and since I joined the chorus, a dear friend of mine.
Jack was a true gentleman and gem of a human being. He will be greatly missed.
I am glad your free of pain now Jack, but, I will miss you my friend.
My sincere condolences to the family.
Jeff

I was so sorry to hear of Jack’s passing. It was great that he was able to attend at “the Pump“ shortly before his passing. I am sure he would have enjoyed that. I used to see Jack several years ago at physiotherapy sessions and I never heard him complain. The world has lost a wonderful man. My condolences to his family at this sad time.
