Obituary of John Platias
January 29, 1945 – January 21, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Platias on January 21, 2025, at the age of 79. After a lengthy battle with dementia, God called him home to the heavens above, where he is now at peace. John was born, in Greece, on January 29, 1945 and spent his life as a loving husband, devoted father and proud grandfather.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Filio, who was his partner in life and love. John and Filio met at a dance and their connection was instant—a whirlwind romance that soon blossomed into a joyous marriage. Together, they raised three sons: Angelo, Pete (Leslie) and Jim (Kristen), who were his pride and joy. He leaves behind a cherished legacy through his nine grandchildren: Sofia, Damianos, Darius, Zephyr, Serenity, Atalanta, Vesper, Ava and Alina, all of whom brought him immense happiness and pride.
In his younger days, John was an avid soccer player, dedicating many hours to the sport he loved. His passion for the game was evident in the energy and enthusiasm he brought to the field and it remained with him throughout his life. The running joke was that his love of soccer was only rivaled by his love of finely coiffed hair. Whether on the field or off, he always put as much care into his style as he did his game. In fact, it was a regular occurrence to see John walk onto the pitch with a soccer ball in one hand and a travel comb in the other.
John was a proud and active member of the Greek community, where he was well known for his warm heart, volunteering efforts and dedication to preserving the traditions of his heritage. His love for his family, his culture and his community was unwavering. He touched the lives of countless people with his soft spoken demeanor and wisdom.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in eternal peace.
