Michelle and family,
I would like to extend my deepest condolences to you all. News of Darren's passing has weighed heavily on all of us who came to know him during his time with the Ottawa Police Service. Darren was trusted by all members of the Service, regardless of rank, and depended upon for his deep level of expertise in his field. He was always professional and cared deeply about the Service, those he worked with and those he supported. Most importantly, Darren was always kind and considerate; Darren was one of the first to welcome me when I joined the OPS in 2015, and we remained in regular contact right through until last year. He was someone who's opinion I trusted and respected and we often worked together to advance our individual portfolios together.
Darren was quiet but funny and light-hearted - there was no doubt that he was an east coast boy.
On a personal level, Darren and I often chatted about the ongoings and changes in our young families - the trials and tribulations of parenthood. It was, and remains, clear to me that Darren was a proud husband and father - he is someone that his family can be proud of. The beautiful and thoughtful memorial you have written to honour him only confirms this. He leaves a strong, positive legacy amongst all those who were fortunate to have known him.
I speak for many at the OPS when I say that we were truly blessed for having the opportunity to have known Darren - he has left an indelible impact on us all and will be greatly missed.
