Obituary of Neelmony Chatterjee

With deep sorrow, we bid farewell to our loving father Neelmony Chatterjee, who passed away in his residence in Ottawa on December 23, 2024 at the age of 85. 

Neelmony was an important and one of the most senior members of Deshantari and the local Indian community.  He was known as a talented artist and art conservator. He graduated with a National Diploma in Fine Arts from the New Delhi Polytechnic Art College of with Distinction and was trained in art restoration from the Yugoslav Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. 

After moving to Ottawa, he worked at the Public Archives of Canada as an Art Conservator and later Wallack Galleries, Ottawa. Additionally, he was a fellow of the American Institute for Conservation of Historical and Artistic Works. In his later career he worked as a Calligrapher for the Governor General of Canada.

He is survived by his wife Reba and three children Sanjeeb, Sarothi and Sujata.
