Obituary of Robin Lynn Sully
September 16, 1948 – November 22, 2024
Robin Lynn Sully, 76, passed away surrounded by her loving family at home in Ottawa. Born and raised in Goderich, Ontario, Robin grew up by the shores of Lake Huron, the daughter of Bruce Sully and Gail Caswell, and the eldest sister to Mark and Mike.
A trailblazer, Robin was one of the few women in Commerce at Queen's University and later graduated from McGill Law School. Her passion for justice was ignited by her time with CUSO in West Africa, where she developed a profound commitment to human rights. This calling led to a remarkable career supporting access to justice in over 30 countries. Her impact was recognized by the inaugural Commonwealth Lawyers Association's Rule of Law Award and the Walter S. Tarnopolsky Award for Human Rights.Even after her cancer diagnosis, Robin continued to advocate tirelessly. She was the chair of the Ontario Advocacy Committee for Multiple Myeloma and co-chaired the Ottawa-Gatineau Multiple Myeloma Support Group, raising substantial funds for research and helping to put patients' voices at the center of life-saving medicine development.
In her personal life, Robin’s warmth, fairness, fun and wicked sense of humor shone brightly. Married to Antek Kubski for 43 years, she was a devoted mother to Simon and Jas and a doting grandmother to Milo, Florence, and Daphne. Robin’s zest for life was infectious —and though her dance moves may have been unlawfully good, her puns always brought real justice to the room. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Highland Park Cemetery, 2037 McGee Side Road Carp, Ontario on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at 11 a.m. Those who wish to attend are invited to RSVP at RobinSullyMemorial@gmail.com
In lieu of flowers, donations to Myeloma Canada would be appreciated.
