Doreen Marshall

Obituary of Doreen Elinor Marshall

The family of Doreen Elinor Marshall (Calder) announce with great sorrow but profound happiness for a life well lived, her passing on April 1, 2024 in Carleton Place, Ontario surrounded by the love of her family.

Doreen was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to the late Ivy & William Calder and was the loving elder sibling to her predeceased brother Ronald Calder(Janice).

Doreen married her life partner, John (Jack) Marshall on August 8, 1953 and was fortunate to share 56 loving years together. They lived and started their family in Winnipeg until moving to Ottawa in 1975.

Doreen was known for her beautiful soprano voice. She sang in the Winnipeg Hudson’s Bay Choir for many years and was the soloist for Norwood United Church in Winnipeg before moving and singing at Trinity United Church in Ottawa. Her family has fond memories of her solos at Easter and it seemed fitting that she passed on Easter Monday having listened to Handel’s Messiah. Doreen dedicated her life to the service of others. She was recognized in the Eastern Star for 70 years of service in addition to her Masonic affiliation with Job’s Daughters, Rainbow Girls and the Daughters of the Nile. She also dedicated over 40 years to volunteering at Medex Nursing Home in Ottawa.

Everyone who knew Doreen described her as a sweet, kind and caring soul. She had a quiet, gentle nature as well as an inner strength that allowed her to persevere through any difficult times.

Although loved by many friends and neighbours, it was her family that brought her the most happiness. She was a proud and loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother and was always there for each and every one of us.

She will be lovingly missed by her children; Carol Jeffrey (Bruce Grier), David Marshall (Lise Messier) and Laurie Camrass (John Leeder), her grandchildren; Erika Jeffrey (Ian Robinson), Robert Jeffrey, Émilie Marshall, Anne Marshall (Edward Tam) and Jamie Camrass, her great grandchildren; Sydney and Korbyn Jeffrey. Fondly remembered by her extended family of in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada and overseas.

A private family service will be held in May at Pinecrest Cemetery when Mom will be reunited with our Dad forever. If you wish to honour Doreen’s memory, a donation to the Salvation Army or a random act of kindness would be appreciated.

Forever in our hearts.
