Obituary of Sandra Stevenson

Sandra (Sam) Patricia Stevenson, 71, of Ottawa, Ontario passed away peacefully at home on December 31, 2023 with her family by her side after her 2 year fight with small cell cancer.

Sam is survived by her husband of 47 years Joseph (Joe) Marshall , son Joseph (Joe) Blanchette (Debbie), Grand-Daughter Kayla Blanchette (Josh), and 3 Great-Grandchildren Landon, Scarlett and Ambrey Graham, as well as her many extended family members in the
Niagara region. 

She is predeceased by her father James Allan Widdows and her mother Marion Mackie, as well as her brother George Brian Widdows. Sam also has a sister with whom we’ve lost touch Nancy Landrieau.

In her lifetime, Sam worked in the food services industry waitressing for a long while at many different establishments and eventually was led to serving in the cafeterias at St. Pius X, and then to Longfield-Davidson Public School where she eventually retired from. She made many friends along the way and loved to watch the children grow up during their high school years. Often, they would recognize her in the community and want to catch up with her. Sam will be surely missed by all who loved her.

Our family would like to thank The Cancer Care Unit at all 3 of the Ottawa Hospitals where she received excellent care by the many doctors and nurses in the ICU and Radiation Units. We would also like to thank the St. Elizabeth Home Care Center. Especially Dr. Douglas, Dr. Spacek, and the exceptional home care nurses who provided her comfort right to the end.

We will be having a celebration of life, it will take place in the late spring. Time and Date to be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Food 4 Kids or the Ottawa Food Bank as Sam believed strongly that there should never be a hungry belly.
