Obituary of Dr. Swarn Singh Lall
It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Swarn Singh Lall Ji announce his peaceful passing on December 13, 2023 at the age of 89 years. He was well known in all communities he touched. Dr. Lall was a gifted Sikh Canadian who united all communities (Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Jewish) to make Canada and our world a better place.
Dr. Lall was born on November 12, 1934, in Bakapur Guru, District of Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India. He completed his Senior Cambridge in Kisumu, Kenya, followed by his degrees in Medicine (MBBS) and Radiology in Amritsar and Lucknow, India. He married Balbir Kaur Lall (Panesar) on August 20, 1967. Together they had 3 beautiful daughters while living in Lusaka, Zambia.
In 1974, Dr. Lall moved the family to Saskatchewan, Canada where he continued his practice in General Family Medicine and Acupuncture. In 1999, Swarn and Balbir retired in Ottawa, Ontario.
Dr. Lall tirelessly dedicated his time in serving the Sikh Gurdwara Communities starting by building the first Sikh Gurdwara Sahib in Lusaka, then in serving as President of the Gurdwara Sahib in Regina, and then into Ottawa serving the Sikh Society Executive Board as Secretary. He was also a founding member of The Punjabi Heritage Foundation of Canada.
Dr. Lall’s passion in music started with reciting Gurbani and performing Shabads and Kirtan in Gurudwara Sahib to performing at various musical programs and weddings.
He is forever remembered by his three daughters, Gurjeet (nic; Dolly) (Tom) and grandson Emmanuel, Satwinder (nic; Sandy) and granddaughters Maela, Sohna, Indi, Malwinder (nic; Malinda) (Scott) and granddaughter Marina. He is predeceased by his loving wife Balbir Kaur (2008).

1:30-2:30 The Sahej Path Bhog and Langar will take place at the Ottawa Sikh Society, Gurdwara Sahib, 25 Gurdwara Road, Ottawa.
