Obituary of John Guty

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of John on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the age of 91. Predeceased by his beloved wife Betty. Devoted father to Robert (Karen), Elizabeth and predeceased by son Stephan. Treasured Didi to Thomas, Sabrina, Hanna (Bobby), Adrianne (Pat), Erika (Adam), Harrison (Rebecca), Kathrine, and Jack. Great grandfather to Jameson, Special Didi to Breanna and Kevin, and proud uncle and cousin to many.

John was very proud of his Ukrainian heritage, and a man of tradition. He was fortunate to have visited his parents’ village and met many relatives in Ukraine and Poland. He very much enjoyed going to the genealogy meetings in Ottawa. John and Betty also loved to travel, having visited most of Canada, the United States, Australia and many parts of Europe. They loved last minute road trips, such as going to church dinners somewhere in the Ottawa Valley, smoked meat sandwiches in Montreal and of course, Ukrainian festivals. When John and Betty were home, they were busy entertaining their many friends. Hosting garage sales with a gourmet breakfast, impromptu bridge games and of course, a daily happy hour with chips and peanuts.

Friends are welcome to visit from 10:00a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11:00a.m. at Highland Park Cemetery on Saturday, December 16th. 

John was a quiet supporter of many charities, in lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
