Obituary of Bruce Wilbert Hay

Bruce Wilbert Hay

(a.k.a Bailor or Brucey - His birth certificate actually is Wilbert Bruce Hay)

DOB: September 24, 1939

DOD: November 13, 2023

After a fairly short battle with heart disease, Bruce (Dad) passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Heart Institute on November 13, 2023. His condition had deteriorated in the weeks prior and the fluid had started to build up fast. Upon the advice of his cardiologist, he called 911 and was admitted to hospital on Friday, November 10th. Doctors were pleased with his progress, but on Monday, the doctor checked in on him in the morning and about a half hour later he was gone. His heart just stopped. We take some solace that it was quick, & painless and he didn’t have to spend months in hospital suffering.

He is predeceased by the love of his life, Linda Hay (Mom) who passed away very unexpectedly a little over a year ago on November 2, 2022. They were married on August 25, 1962 and had just celebrated their 60th anniversary months before her passing.

They are both survived by their two loving children, Jeff (wife Candace Sceviour-Hay and grandchildren Erica and Nathan) and Kerry (husband, Craig Fowler).

Bruce was the youngest of 7 children by Elvira and Albert Hay. He is predeceased by his 6 siblings; Kenneth, Dorothy, Lois, Beryl, Barclay and Edward.

He was a lovable, charismatic guy who was quick to smile and crack a joke – the life of the party. People remember him as a fun-loving, stubborn and happy guy. He lived for his family and would do anything for those he loved – a genuine “shirt off his back” kind of man.  He was also a curious George – had to know how things worked or how they were made. Prone to over explanation, you’d regret asking him how to get somewhere because you’d receive a very long-winded and detailed description of every landmark and pothole along the way!

He enjoyed spending time with the “Outlaws” playing cards, golfing & until quite recently rocking the billiard tables at the Legion.

We love you Dad and will miss you terribly. With broken hearts we say goodbye to a wonderful, loving father (and devoted husband) who was always there for us with a big hug and an “I love you”.

A Celebration of Life for Bruce and Linda will take place from
