Obituary of Janice Ellen Fochuk

Janice Ellen died quietly and gently on 2 November 2023 in the afternoon hours of a beautiful fall day of her choosing.

She was born 19 December 1944 in Smiths Falls, Ontario and will be dearly missed by her high school sweetheart Victor and their forever loved children Stephen (Laurence Marie Bilodeau), of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and Lyndsay Alexis Scharfe (Bradly Neil Scharfe), of Kemptville and her much loved Northern grandchildren Alisa-Rose Constance and Alexander Victor Fochuk.

Janice is also survived by her brother Geoffrey John Wyght (Deborah) of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was predeceased by her cherished parents Francis Clifford Leonard Wyght and  Agnes Rita (nee Wilson) Wyght and her sister Leslie Louise Wright and her husband Charles “Chuck” Wright.

Janice grew up in Manor Park, Ottawa and spent her summers at her grandparents cottage near Rideau Ferry on the Rideau Lakes and after their 1967 marriage, she and Victor moved to Manotick and continued to summer at the cottage. After thirty-five years of living on “The Island” in Manotick they moved to Stonebridge, with winters spent at the World Tennis Club, Naples, Florida.

Early days Janice worked for External Aid (CIDA), the Australian High Commission, and for thirty-three years The Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, Carleton University.

Cremation has taken place and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis de Sales in Smith Falls at a later date. Inurnment will take place in the old cemetery.
