Diane Bartlett-Fraser

Obituary of Diane Bartlett-Fraser

Sadly, on Saturday, the 16th of September, 2023; after a long struggle with many health challenges. Diane Bartlett-Fraser passed from this life into the next while receiving long term and then palliative care as a resident at Garden Terrace in Kanata. Born July 31st, 1943 in Montreal, Diane was raised lovingly by her parents, Isabel Bartlett and John Russell Bartlett of Lennoxville, Quebec, and is survived by Shawn Fraser of Spencerville, Ontario and Jeff Fraser of East Arrow Park, British Columbia. Diane was an alumnus of Albert College in Belleville before attending nursing school in Montreal. After marrying and moving to Sault Ste. Marie, a son named Shawn was born and a home was built in Goulais River, Ontario. Shortly after, another son named Jeff was born. Life was full of challenges for my mom but she was a strong woman with supportive parents and the move to being a single mother of two young boys meant a change of scenery was in order. A move to Ottawa provided a much needed opportunity to adapt and overcome challenges. Though she married into the Fraser family, she was the embodiment of the family motto, Je Sui Prest, I Am Ready and she embraced the change. As a school bus driver in the Goulais River, Diane transferred her seniority to Ottawa and settled in Stittsville and continued to drive bus for Charterways and juggle part time jobs, raise her sons and pursue a degree in social work. After graduating, she worked for the Salvation Army at a home for unwed mothers and mother to be, positively impacting many young women. Throughout Diane's life she was an amazing seamstress who sewed custom wedding dresses and grad dresses for many happy young ladies and spouses to be, as well as much of her young boy's clothes growing up, she loved sewing till mobility and dexterity issues made it too difficult to continue. Alzheimers and other health complications can make living life and quality of life difficult and sometimes perhaps the end is a welcome release from the burden of suffering. Gone but not forgotten, may she rest in peace.

No public memorial will be held and her last wishes will be fulfilled by her sons, may she rest in peace. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
