Obituary of Josef Seidl
It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Josef at the Maplewood retirement residence in Ottawa on June 24, 2023 in his 100th year.
He was born in Kowald Austria to Josef and Maria Seidl (nee Köck). It was in Graz Austria that he met his loving wife of 60 years Maria (nee Klement) and together they immigrated to Canada in 1953 to raise a family. Maria passed away in June 2013.
Devoted father of Peter (predeceased), Paul (Monique) and Christopher (Diana). Proud Opa to his treasured grandchildren William and Sara. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister-in law Hermine Nassau (Wilhelm (predeceased)) of Waterloo and many special relatives in Austria.
Josef’s career as an auto electrician began in Austria. He spent 35 years at OC Transpo in Ottawa and was a hardworking man who took pride in his work and accomplishments. Josef loved to tell and listen to a joke. He was a genuine, kind-hearted man who was a true gentleman.
Josef and Maria built their cottage on Farren Lake where he enjoyed many decades sailing, water skiing and spending time with family and friends. Many years were spent travelling to Austria in the fall and winters in Florida. After retirement Josef spent most of his time outdoors that also included numerous rounds of golf with his many friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Farey and the staff at the Maplewood for making his last years comfortable. Josef loved to participate in many activities and never missed the opportunity to attend an exciting game of bingo.
