Georges Vandewaetere

Obituary of Georges Lucien Vandewaetere

(RETIRED Electrical Engineer Bell Canada)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Georges L. Vandewaetere.  Called to be with the Lord May 8, 2023. Beloved husband of almost 60 years of Michele (n. Goulet).  Dear brother of Rose and the late Yolande. Dear father of Anik (Jeff Lowell) and Mark (Linda n. Duchesne). Loved by his grandchildren, Connor; Alex, Leya, Cindy and Sheila.  Loving great-grandfather to Hailey and Layla.

Georges came to Montreal from Belgium, with his parents and both sisters in April 1951. He began to work for Northern Electric Co. in 1959 as an Electrical Engineer and developed the rectifier plug-in-package which became an instant success, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars to Bell and salvaging Northern from doom. This solidified his position as expert on rectifiers and he travelled across Canada with this expertise.  By 1965 he transferred to Bell HQ and moved to Ottawa in 1971.  He worked for 32years at Bell Canada and retired in 1991.

He was a man of great faith and was involved with the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, for many years, especially in the province of Quebec. He also had a heart for young people and the down and out.  He built and founded a centre for the youth where they could come, hear the word of God, music, share a meal and their experience with the Lord on Saturday night.  He loved his animals, Buck, Sasha, Cookie and Munster. He loved fishing, cooking and sharing time with his friends and family.  He also loved to tease his grandchildren, and I think they liked it too! He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

We would like to thank the nurses and physicians at TOH for their excellent care.
