Obituary of Diane D’Amour
Our dear mother Diane D’Amour, at the age of 76, passed away peacefully in her home on April 5th, 2023 after a long but valiant battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time she passed.
Diane was born on May 22nd, 1946 to Eileen Pearl Page and Leslie Woodrow Bonhower in Ottawa, ON. Diane found a perfect work / life balance while holding a position at Atomic Energy followed by a position at the Royal Canadian Legion later in her life. She also found time for foster care as well as providing home daycare to family members and friends.
Diane’s gems in her life were always her children Shannon, Joseph and her grandchildren. They meant the world to her. Throughout her day, when she was not whistling with the birds, she would always talk about how proud she is of her kids and particularly of her grandson Bailey whom she helped raise. Finding something (on sale) that would benefit them was often one of her daily activities. Her actions always revolved around helping others and rarely did she think of herself unless there was a sale on glass bottled pop at the local grocery store.
An eagle-eyed bargain hunter, Diane was also one of the few who could get another 50% off what was deemed to already be “the deal of the century”. She was a valuable asset if you had her by your side at the local garage sale or major clear-out event at the local retail store.
Diane was predeceased by her parents, Eileen and Leslie. She is survived by her children, Shannon-Lise D'Amour (Kris), Joseph Connah and her grandson Bailey Mackenzie Logan as well as her siblings David Bonhower (Bonnie) and Darryl Bonhower (Laura) among many other family members and friends including Puddles, here favorite puppy.
Our family wish to extend a special thank you to all the medical staff of the Ottawa Hospital General Campus, Ottawa South Palliative Group and the Bayshore Nurses for their tireless work taking care of Diane. Special mention to Ifrah and Anisa from CBI Health – thank you for making mom and her hair look beautiful! We also thank the close friends and family members who helped support us during this difficult time, far too many to name.
We request that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
