Obituary of Ruth Eileen Sanford

Ruth Eileen (Rombough) Sanford, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, March 10, 2023, at the Bridlewood Trails Retirement Home in Ottawa, Ontario.

Ruth was born on August 30, 1935, in Toronto, Ontario to Wellington and Helen (Stephenson) Rombough. She graduated from the Toronto General Hospital School of Nursing in 1957 and had a long and fulfilling career as a nurse in Montreal, Quebec and Newport, Vermont. She was a survivor who battled ovarian cancer, breast cancer and 2 brain tumours and beat them all. Her passions were sewing, tennis, skiing and her gardens.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband Daniel Sanford, her brother Dr.  William (Bill) Rombough, and her parents. She is survived by her 3 children: Stephen (Denise), Jeannine (Jeff), and Andree (Zlatko); grandchildren Dianne (Torren), Danielle, Liam, Reagan, and Benjamin; and great grandchildren Bryce, Kieran, Owen, Lincoln, and Eloise.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the wonderful care she received from the PSWs, staff, and nurses at the Bridlewood Trails Retirement Home. 

In keeping with Ruth’s wishes, cremation is to take place at the Cole Funeral Services. Please sign the family's online guestbook on this page. There will be a Graveside Service on on June 24^th, 2023 at 1:00pm in Jay Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Jay Vermont, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00pm at the Jay Village Inn in Jay Vermont.
