Doreen was the very first person I ever met from CDC when she came to Waterloo to interview and hire me as a co-op student in early 1989. In the mid-90s, as a full-time employee, I flew with her a few times to career fairs in Toronto to help screen job candidates. In the evenings, we would unwind in the hotel bar from a long day of interviewing and I was fortunate to get to know her better, especially her wicked sense of humour. She made me laugh hard. Doreen was a great lady, very friendly and personable, with a razor-sharp wit.
My condolences to Doreen’s family and friends for your loss.

Glenn, Melanie, family and friends;
I knew Doreen for my entire career at CDC/GDC Ottawa. She was amazing at her job! But it was her stories and interactions with Family, Friends and her volunteerism that was her real soul.

So sorry to hear about your Mom's passing. I never knew your mother but its like I knew her for years because I heard all about her from my sister Becky and Clyde Crane which were their BBF. They had a lot of good trips together. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.God Bless you all.

My condolences to Glenn, Melanie and family. Such sad news. Doreen hired me at Computing Devices/General Dynamics and I ended up working in Human Resources. After her retirement, a few of the HR folks continued to get together to share our news and activities. I will miss those times with Doreen and am so glad I got to see her before Christmas. RIP Doreen

Dear Melanie and family, I was so sorry to hear of Doreen's passing. While I only worked with Doreen for a couple of years, she was one of a kind! So highly respected throughout the company, a true partner, and one of the funniest gals ever!
I hope your countless wonderful memories provide you with some comfort at this sad and difficult time. Rest in peace, Doreen.

It is with great sadness that I heard of Doreen’s passing. My most vivid memory of her came from St. Paul’s church every Sunday when we offered The Peace to each other. Doreen’s smile, every week, was so heartwarming. I was one of her “pew mates,” Lynn Williams
RIP Doreen

A message from Debbie Santistevan:
Where do I start, I remember my dad telling me to sit down because he needed to talk to me, first thing I thought was, what did I do now, since he knew about the smoking, drugs and filling the vodka bottles with water…. Yup, I was definitely a rebellious teenager going through some issues in my life.
He told me that he met this wonderful lady and wanted to know how I felt about that. I told him that I wanted him to be happy and if this person made him happy that is all I could want for him. Little did I know that this woman, Doreen, would not only make my dad happy but would help me turn my life around.
They were married just a few years and I remember one morning a friend of mine came over to the house and I was outside waiting for her. As my friend was walking up the driveway Doreen came out with a broom to sweep the front area and I told my friend oh no here comes my wicked step mother, she said what you doing Cinderella, we all laughed so hard that we were crying.
I was so grateful for Doreen when she got me a job at Domtar in the mailroom without any hesitation. She told me that she believed in me and knew that I would do my best.
When I was 20, a girlfriend of mine was moving to Alaska with a boyfriend and she asked if I wanted to go with them. I guess I watched to many Tammy movies and decided I wanted to go to California. I talked to Doreen and she said that she believed I can do anything that I put my mind to. So, with $200 in my pocket, no job and a suitcase I went to California to start a new life. I was so scared and would call Doreen often for advance and encouragement. She taught me the importance to save money and helped me through the process. Well 40+ years later, and listening to a very wise woman, I was able to build a beautiful house in Arizona and retired last year.
Guess what I am saying is like everyone, I have gone down some roads that might have not been well paved but with the love and support of my mom Doreen, she helped me understand that it was ok and I grew from that.
Glenn, your mom loved you very much and always called you her “Golden Child” she was very proud of you in all that you have accomplished in your life. We always talked about you and your beautiful family. I will always be there for you and hope that one day in the near future we can all get together.
Rest in Pease mom, you will always have a special place in my heart!

I offer my heartfelt condolences to Glenn and Melanie and family. I'm very sad to know of Doreen's passing. She was a very special Human Being, empathetic, kind, generous and yes, funny. I knew her for a long time at CDC/GD and the HR Team there respected and liked her. I cherish the coffee time we had together, just before last Christmas, when she was facing her illness with her usual strength and resolve, and then had a few chuckles about the 'good old days'. God bless and rest in peace, Doreen.

I'm deeply saddened to hear of Doreen's death. She was the dearest person and most genuine soul I have ever met. We met at CDC Ottawa - she hired me on a recruiting assignment in 1992 for the new facility they were building in Calgary. We remained friends and kept in touch via emails as I am retired and still living in Calgary. Doreen is such a shining light in my heart and soul; I will miss her presence in this world but she'll always be in my heart. Bless her family; my condolences.
