Obituary of Judith Jean Gerus (nee Atkinson)

October 24, 1943 – January 16, 2023

It is with deep sadness that Judy’s family announce her sudden passing in Ottawa on January 16, 2023. She will be dearly missed by her siblings, Doreen Fischer (Martin), Germany; Shirley Greer (Doug), Nova Scotia and David Atkinson (Patti), Ontario. Also mourning are her stepsons and their families, Darrell Gerus (Trina Mawer), Mike Gerus (Heather) and Barry Gerus (Vera). Nieces and nephews Birgit, Erik, Jenny, Jim, Matthew, Gillian and Darcy also mourn her loss.

Judy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Wally, in March of 2022. Also predeceased by her parents, Hugh and Doris Atkinson, Pasadena, Newfoundland.

Quiet by nature, she loved to travel, was an avid gardener, voracious reader, piecer of puzzles and stitcher of beautiful embroideries. She was born and raised on a farm in Pasadena, Newfoundland, and although she spent most of her adult life away she was a staunch Newfoundlander until the end.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
