Obituary of Marian MacKay

Sadly, Marian’s journey has ended. Happily, her final wishes were met. She was at home, she had a good family Christmas and she was able to socialize to the end. She will be sorely missed by her husband, Mike, her son, Jeff Cameron (Kate Sokolina), her thirteen living siblings, her in-laws, and the countless wonderful people who comprise their families. Despite having lived her last sixteen years with the pain of losing her son, Craig, Marian embraced life, cherishing every one of her many friends from several communities: family, neighbourhood, work, triathlon, and biking (both Ottawa and Florida). She grew up on the O’Donohue family farm in Berwick, Ontario. She enjoyed her work as a teacher, and threw herself into fitness. She was an organizer, a comic and a valued member of every group. Self-possessed and humble, Marian did not like to call herself an athlete. Yet she is among the tiny percentage of people who can call themselves an Ironman. Thanks and respect are due to the Home Care Palliative team who added comfort and pleasure to her last days. A Celebration of Life is being planned. The Shepherds of Good Hope is suggested for those who wish to make a donation in Marian’s memory.
