Gilles was my best friend in my late teens at university, in my twenties and my thirties. In fact, I lived with Gilles at 3 different locations and 3 different times, the last being his home on Irving Avenue where I shared a house with him and my wife Janet. Gilles was the best man at our wedding and we shared many fond and crazy adventures during our time as friends, most of which must remain our secret. My friend was a very generous, thoughtful, kind person but most of all, he had an amazing moral compass that always stayed true to his beliefs. His career reflected that ability to help people in ways that only he could do.
I cannot overemphasize what a good man he was but I have to speak of Annie. Her greatest gift to him was to allow Gilles to be himself. He was made to change or be someone other than himself. Lastly, as the words of wedding ceremonies say « in sickness and in health », Annie was an amazing partner and an unbelievably devoted caregiver. As his friend, I am so glad that Annie was the love of his life and was such an amazing person to share his life with.
