Dear Marsham Family, I am so sorry to learn of Derek's passing, a remarkable man. You knew him as a partner, parent, and grandparent; others knew him as a businessman; but I came to admire him in the world of Ottawa table tennis. He was an accomplished competitor, who outfoxed and outlasted those he competed against for decades, and they were often much younger! He was a true sportsman and a model amateur athlete, serious about his game but always encouraging to others, especially to us 'juniors'. He had flair and a wonderful sense of humour but was self-effacing. He was a many-times-over champion in the Ottawa table tennis scene, but my sense is that he was a champion where June and family were concerned and his business career. He was a role model, who certainly shaped how I approached life. I had a wonderful opportunity to chat with Derek just a few months ago after being out of touch for many years, catching up on all sorts of news about your family, of which he was so proud. I treasure that conversation. I cannot imagine your sense of loss, but I wish you solace during these difficult times. Evert Lindquist, Victoria
