Dear Virginia and family, My heart felt condolences to you. It is never easy to lose a husband , father , good friend but those of us who knew Mike will keep him fondly in our memories. Mike and I and Pierre, (my eventual husband, ) were colleagues and friends in the then External Aid Office, Canada’s development assistance beginnings. Liz or as people know me now , Elizabeth

Richard and I are saddened to learn about the passing of Mike. We remember Mike's hearty laugh, his wry sense of humour and his kindness as a neighbour. We also remember the little dog Finny as Mike's sidekick for many years. Our thoughts go out to Virginia, Megan and Andrew during this very difficult, sad time. Take good care of yourselves and the granddaughters. Mary, Richard, Peter, Emily and Graham Devitt.

Our deepest condolences to the Jenkyns and Brooks family. Mike was a great friend to my father and a truly one of a kind individual with his humour and quick wit, and always had a funny story to share. Growing up, I always liked to sneak a peak at his model trains and would always laugh when he had a conversation with our pet bird, Humphrey. Mike will be missed, but always remembered fondly.

I was most saddened to learn of Mike's passing. I always enjoyed my interactions with Mike whenever visiting my parents at #3 Westfield. He and my Dad had many occasions over the years to share experiences about their homes and yards, or current affairs, or whatever. Mike's smile was always broad, if not mischevious at times. Mike and Virginia were the kind of neighbours one dreams of: friendly, helpful and trustworthy. My parents regarded them as very dear friends. My condolences to Virginia and the rest of the family.

Dear Virginia and family,
My deepest condolences on the loss of Mike. He had a good sense of humour and always had a funny or historical anecdote to share. I have fond memories of him showing Sean and I his trains when we were kids. I know this adjustment to life without him will be difficult, but take care of each other and try to focus on the good times.

Dear Virginia and family
My deepest sympathies on your loss. Mike was not only a valued CIDA colleague but a good friend for more that fifty years. His inquisitive mind, love of history and wide range of interests made for fascinating conversations whenever we met. We shared countless enjoyable lunches, dinners and coffees over the years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

I knew Mike as a colleague at CIDA for many years. I was impressed by his commitment to international development and his respect for his colleagues. His dry sense of humour was always a joy to me.
My deepest sympathy to the family. Rest in peace Mike.

Michael is the one, with Noble Power, who gave me the opportunity to become a diplomat first with CIDA as a field officer for a first posting in Kuala Lumpur when he was Director of the Southeast Asia Development Program in Ottawa. He was subsequently my Director after I returned to Ottawa following that initial posting. I learned a lot from him and he was a great boss, fair, understanding, patient and hard working. My time with him lead me to take on a second posting abroad and a career with with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. I thoroughly enjoy knowing him. My sincere condolences to the family. He is forever in my memory bank of man who inspired me. I very much regret being unable to pay my respects on June 28 as I will be in Nova Scotia at that time.

Michael was a great friend who practised Masonry in many ways. His love of history was complimented by his willingness to share his research. He was a person you learned to treasure for his thoughtfulness and his knowledge. We are all better from having met him and considered him as a friend. Rest well Michael. Go in peace.
