Obituary of Brian Ward
Peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, Brian passed away on Tuesday, May 10th, 2022 in his 83rd year. Loving husband of Ann (Maxwell) for 55 years. Son of the late Howard Ward and Elizabeth (Clarke). Wonderful father to Kevin (Mylène Lambert) of Aylmer, Kelly Neumann (Andrew) of Johannesburg and Katie Ward Chiasson (Matt) of Woodlawn. Big brother to Margaret Green of Cambridge and Betty Ward of Ottawa. Proud grandfather of Isaac, Ava, Akina and Naomi. Brian was also deeply loved by brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald Maxwell (Patricia) of Waterloo, Gary Maxwell (Ruth) of Richmond, Jane St. Denis (Jacques) of Kanata, Ken Maxwell (Marcia) of Lombardy, Paul Maxwell (deceased), James Maxwell of Kanata, Steven Maxwell (Karen) of Renfrew and Teresa Larivee of Kanata, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and cousins from across the country.
Brian will be missed by numerous neighbours and friends in the community. Brian worked for 38 years in municipal government and was a school bus driver for 8 years. He was involved for 50 years in church and community activities, from which he received great satisfaction. In his younger years he was involved in children’s and adult theatre, he enjoyed all types of music and still believed that rock and roll is here to stay. He loved travelling with family and friends and had many trips and memories through North America, Europe and SE Asia. We are very grateful for the years of friendship of Bill and Diane Radburn who shared many travel adventures and Judy Ferguson who introduced Brian and Ann on a blind date.
We are extremely grateful for the care and compassion of his home care team, The Ottawa Hospital Academic Family Health Team (Civic), TOH Hematology and Oncology Clinic, the Medical Day Care Unit at the General, the AAMAC support group for all their knowledge, encouragement, and friendship and to all those blood donors who sustained Brian since 2014. He lived with Myelodysplastic Syndrome for 8 years before it recently transitioned to Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
According to Brian’s wishes, he will be cremated, and the family will receive condolences at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16th, 2022 at St. Isidore Church, 1135 March Road, Kanata, followed by Mass of Christian Funeral at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the parish hall.
