Obituary of Robert Murray
Peacefully on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice in Kanata.
Son of the late Elmo and Almeda Murray of Ottawa. Predeceased by sister Gail , RN, of Prince Edward Island, wife Audrey Dawn Bowler and just 1 week previously cousin Beryl of Caledon, Ontario.
Survived by best friend and partner for 25 years Judy Collins, niece Christine of Ottawa and the Inch / Craggs family in Caledon.
Bob was born in Montreal, his father Elmo was an orphan and he and his wife did everything possible to ensure their 2 children had every opportunity possible to lead a happy and fulfilling life.
Bob graduated from Osgoode Hall and was a partner in a busy Ottawa Law Practice for many years and during that time taught the Estate Law course at Carleton University at night, with many of his students practising law today in Ontario.
An avid sportsman from football in high school to skippering his Yacht Aurora on the Ottawa River, cross country skiing , tennis at the West Ottawa Tennis Club and Britannia Yacht Club where he won many championships and was a member for over 50 years. A hole in one during a round of golf at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club, although golf was the one sport that tormented him for many decades!
Bob was a member and past president of the Westboro Kiwanis Club and later a member and past president of the Sage Kiwanis Club where a group of members joined together for a singing group and travelled all over Ottawa to various retirement and nursing homes with Bob on the piano. Regular performances for the local Aktion club also took place with the same Kiwanis group.
Bob loved to travel, and up until his illness was able to see a lot of Ireland and Europe on yearly trips to visit friends and Judy’s family.
For everyone that loved and knew Bob he will be especially remembered for his kindness and of course his zany sense of humour. He loved his small family, his friends and his country.
A special shout out to family friends Philip and Sonya for helping Bob though his journey, the staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital and the staff and volunteers at the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice where Bob was looked after with professionalism, compassion, dignity, and respect. Please donate to this worthy cause.
