Obituary of Tema "Helen" Gelblum
Tema "Helen" Gelblum passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at age 93. Beloved wife of the late Stanley Gelblum. Loving mother of John, Robert and Michael, and aunt of Celia, Jeffrey, Suzan; Peter, Jane; Eti, Dasi. Helen was predeceased by her parents Jacob and Ellia, her sister Mitzi, brother Jerzy and uncle Harry.
Helen was a child Holocaust survivor, losing almost all her family and being orphaned in her teens. Yet, she rose up from this experience without being consumed by bitterness or anger, and later devoted herself to her three sons, instilling in them her own zest for life, strong values and empathy.
Helen loved life and enjoyed many interests: the outdoors, long walks, Scrabble, literature, gardening, music and singing, cooking, entertaining.
Helen had many close personal friendships, in particular with Sally, Peggy, and sister-in-law Rega (all predeceased). Special thanks to family friend C.P. for his great kindness and devotion to Helen over many years.
Those who knew and loved Helen are very saddened by her passing and will miss her beautiful smile, sweet disposition, and happy singing voice.
A private graveside service was held at Pinecrest Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Queensway Carleton Hospital or the Bruyere Hospital, Ottawa.
