It is with extreme sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Ann McDonald, (nee Tregunna) of Gananoque. Betty Ann peacefully left us on Wednesday January 12, at the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer and dementia.

Beloved wife and best friend of James (56 years) Loving mother to Lisa and special son-in-law Jack Merziotis. Cherished and adored grandmother to Melissa Jean.  Daughter of the late John Tregunna and Jean Marion Higgins.  Dear sister of Jack (Lynn), Linda Cliffe (Francis) Roger and Donna. Predeceased by her brother Paul. Sister-in-law to Cheryl Schock.  Loving sister in-law to Anne Kearns (late Jim Kearns) and Tom McDonald.  Predeceased by Catherine and Leon Bendayan. She will be dearly missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and colleagues.

For many years in the early 80’s Betty Ann worked at the Bank of Montreal (Shoppers City) Baseline/ Woodroffe as the Commercial Head Teller. In the early 90’s Betty Ann left the bank and joined her husband James in helping him continue to build their family businesses together, MPS Metro Automotive & Industrial Supplies, and The Fender Factory, since 1979.

We would like to express our utmost appreciation for the friendship, compassion and special home care that Dr. Andrew Douglas of the Community Palliative Medicine Associates, provided Betty Ann during her time at home.

A private family service has already taken place, and a celebration of life for Betty Ann will be held at a later date.

For those wishing to make a donation in memory of Betty Ann, to either the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation or The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County would be appreciated by her family.
