Obituary of Gerald Burtt

Gerald “Gerry” Cecil Burtt

1931-2021

Gerry passed away peacefully into glory at his home in Ottawa on Friday October 29, 2021. Beloved husband of 65 years to Wanda (nee Holmes). Loving father of Jim, Janice, and Jeff. Proud grandfather of Cindy, Steven, Melissa, Michael; Ryan; Maya, and Isobel. Dear brother of Gordon (Carol), Marjorie Moir (predeceased by Calvin); and predeceased by Jimmy (survived by Marilyn). Son of the late James and Edith Burtt. Beloved uncle and brother-in-law to many. Gerry will be missed and always loved by his family and friends.

Gerry grew up in Fredericton, New Brunswick playing baseball and working for his Dad in the Star Grocery, quickly developing a skill for arithmetic. He graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a degree in Engineering, where he met and later married his sweetheart Wanda. A Maritimer at heart he enjoyed lobster rolls, soda, and quiet moments with his family. He also worked for the City of Ottawa for 37 years as the Chief Transportation Engineer (P. Eng.). He served generously and attended the Metropolitan Bible Church for nearly fifty years. Gerry was a strong, loving, generous, and faithful man.

A special thanks to Dr. Lisa Cross at CPMA. Thank you to the nurses and doctors at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. We also thank the many nurses and support workers of the palliative home care team. Thank you all for the compassionate care and support of Gerry and our family.

For those who wish donations can be made to Hope and Healing or the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation.
