Obituary of Wayne Barnett
It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne (Dad) on July 9, 2021 at the age of 80 years. Beloved husband to Valerie since 1993 and they happily enjoyed a wonderful life living together near Carleton Place for over 30 years. Loving father to Shari (Clarence) and Craig (Lori). Proud Grandfather to Kelsee (Andre), Jazzmyn (Justin), Joshua (Brooke) and Great Grandfather to Evalynn and Ozias. Predeceased by his loving parents Jean and Stan. Survived by his sister Margaret Turton (Bill – predeceased). Further survived and will be missed by nieces / nephews / cousins and other relatives.
Wayne was born and grew up in Ottawa and attended Ottawa Tech High School. He was very proud to have served in the Canadian Navy on the HMCS Gatineau as a Sonar Operator in the early 1960’s. He told many stories of the times he spent in the North Atlantic, playing Naval Wargames and being involved in the patrols during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The majority of his career was spent working as an Electrician at Mechron Power Systems and that is where he met his wife Valerie.
Wayne will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving father who was always quick with a joke and loved making people laugh. Both Wayne and Val spent many wonderful years together along with the company of their pets. Wayne was also known for his love of dogs (Pauco), horses, hockey, football, hunting and fishing.
The family wishes to thank Ashley “PSW”, Bayshore Health Care Smiths Falls and Dr. Drake for their caring, kindness and compassion.
