Assunta Pezzin

Obituary of Assunta Pezzin

Assunta passed away peacefully on April 10, 2021 at the age of 89. Beloved wife of the late Guiseppe Pezzin. Loving mother of Marc (Georgina) and Monique (Martin). Proud grandmother of Stephen (Cari), Jeffrey (Amanda), Devin (Matt) and Justin (Kelsey) and great grandmother of Christopher,  Anthony, Sidney, Tommy, Ella, Sophie, Joshua and Jacob. Predeceased by her brother Ugo, sisters Maria F, Elda, Louise, Gemma, Maria C and Rica.

Daughter of the late  Pierre Alpago and Catherine Fontana.  Special Aunt of many nieces and nephews in France, Italy, Toronto, Burlington, Oakville and California.

She will be missed dearly by many family members and friends, especially those very close to her here in Ottawa who could not visit because of Covid 19 restrictions.

Assunta was a loving and deeply caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a wonderful Auntie to her many nieces and nephews.  She was a passionate cook, an avid gardener, a crafty knitter and was a master in needle point and petit point canvas art.  She loved to read historically based French and Italian romance novels.  She loved to entertain and host large dinner parties with friends and family.  She never had second thoughts about helping out if you needed help in any way.  She also enjoyed playing bocce, going to picnics and playing cards.  Her favourite catch phrases were “caro mi bel” and “poretto”.

The family wishes to thank the many staff members at the Champlain LHIN; Community Palliative Medicine Associates (CPMA) and the Redwoods Retirement Residence for their assistance, kindness and compassion during her “End of Life” journey.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

A private family service will be held at Pinecrest Cemetery, Ottawa, on Saturday, April 24 at 2:00 pm.
