Obituary of Katharina Pepin

It is with heavy hearts that we announce on Sunday, April 14, 2024, our beloved Mom or “Oma”, as she was so fondly known, Katharina Christina Pepin (nee Kalmund, December 15, 1928) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children. She was 95 years old.

Oma will always be remembered as a force. She had such a giving spirit and a compassionate heart; she gave so generously to everyone or to the causes she cared for. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, her stories and memory will continue on through her family. She is survived by her son, Hughie (Francine) Schmidt and daughter, Kristie Pepin (Charles Joanisse). 

She is predeceased by her husband, Alfred Pepin, her sons, Winnie and Gerhard (“Curley”) Schmidt and her daughter, Shirley Schmidt.

The family would like to thank Oma's care teams at Lynwood Park, Thornecliffe Place and recently, Extendicare Starwood, for their kindness, compassion, support and dedication to taking care of our mom over these past years.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024, in the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road. Inurnment and reception to follow.

As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Lung Association, the Cancer Society, the Schizophrenia Society of Canada, Muscular Dystrophy Canada, Canadian Angelman Syndrome Society or Mainstreet Community Services.
