Obituary of Giuseppe Federico

It is with heavy hearts and immense sadness that we announce the passing of Giuseppe “Joe” Federico. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at the age of 91, at the Bearbrook Transitional Care Unit of The Ottawa Hospital.

Giuseppe is survived by his loving wife Lucia (nee Sebastiani) of 67 years and his loving Children and their Spouses: Antonello and Antoinette Federico, Lina and Ron Villeneuve and Anna and Franco Marino. He was blessed to be surrounded by his loving Grandchildren: Stacy (Trevor), Andrea (Vanessa), Stefano, Olivia and Giuseppe (Madelaine) as well as his Great-Grandchildren Charlie and Brian.

He will be fondly remembered by his dear Brother and Sister-in-Law Vittorio and Camilla Federico, his dear Sister and Brother-in-Law Nicolina and Emidio DiTomasso, his Sister-in-Laws Maria Breda and Rosina Lattanzio along with his many Nieces, Nephews and cherished family and friends from Canada, USA, Italy and Australia.

He was predeceased by his parents Pasquale and Antonia Federico and his loving Sister and Brother-in-Law Maria and Antonio DiTomasso. Also predeceased by his Brother-in-Laws Pasquale Sebastiani, Ettore Lattanzio, Santino Marcucci, Alberto Breda and his Sister-in-Law Domenica Marcucci.

Giuseppe was born in Scafa, Pescara, Italy on October 21, 1933. He immigrated to Canada in May 1958, and he married the love of his life, Lucia on May 22 at St. Anthony’s Church. Giuseppe worked in construction as a Mason and eventually a Foreman and took so much pride in his work. An injury forced him to leave construction which then led him to work as a Shoe Repairman at The Market Cobbler. He eventually took over the shop and happily shined the footwear of The Ottawa Police Force and had many happy customers for whom he would leave notes in their shoes like “The Super One” or “The Nice One.”  

Giuseppe had a heart of gold and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Pinecrest Remembrance Services, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, Ontario. A Mass of Catholic Funeral will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church at 427 Booth Street, Ottawa, Ontario. Private Entombment to follow.
