James Thurlow

Obituary of James Maxwell Thurlow

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of James Maxwell Thurlow, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left us in 2024 at the age of 76.

Born in 1948 to Judge Arthur Thurlow and Mabel Thurlow, James—known to many simply as Jim or Papa—was a man of deep compassion, quiet strength, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.

He was the devoted husband of Deborah Thurlow, with whom he shared a life built on love, loyalty, and partnership. Together, they raised a close and loving family. James was a proud father to Chris Thurlow and Karen Thurlow, and a cherished grandfather to Austin, Cameron, and Makenzie Forsythe, Noah and Kianna Thurlow, and Cody and Madison Thurlow. His family was the center of his world, and he gave his all to support, guide, and protect them.

James was a true entrepreneur—a self-made businessman whose work ethic, ingenuity, and resilience earned him the respect of many. But beyond his accomplishments, he was a man known for his generosity, his loyalty, and the quiet way he cared for everyone around him. He was always looking out for others, rarely asking for anything in return.

Though he could be stubborn, it was only because he cared so deeply. Beneath that was a heart full of love and humor. He had a soft spot for his dogs, a cold Banks beer, a good round of golf, and especially his time spent in Barbados, a place that brought him peace and joy.

James had a way of making you feel at ease—whether through a wise word, a steady presence, or a simple shared moment. He was the kind of person who made things better just by being there.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion that will live on through the many lives he touched. James Maxwell Thurlow was not just the head of our family—he was the heart.

He will be forever missed, and always remembered.
