





Obituary of Richard Gunars Janitens
Richard Gunars Janitens in his 68th year, passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. He leaves behind his beloved wife Colleen of 27 years, his sister Diana (John) and sister Judy. Predeceased by his father Gunars and his mother, Livia. He will be dearly missed by his nieces Christina, Tara (Jeff), Alanna (Josh) and his nephews, David, John (Cailin) and Keith (Kerry). Also leaving behind his “brother from another mother” Craig Gerlitz, and many great-nieces and nephews and cousins. Richard met his wife Colleen in 1989 through his father with whom she worked with. After dating for 8 years, they married in 1998. Richard retired from the Federal Government in May of 2018. And before that he worked for CBC. He was an avid skier and skater. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He enjoyed his retirement to the fullest and loved travelling with his wife to Las Vegas and Niagara Falls, their favorite places to visit.
Friends are invited to visit at the Pinecrest Remembrance Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 11am until time of the service in the chapel at 12pm. Inurnment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Canadian Liver Foundation or Peace Latvian Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
He was loved by all! And he will never be forgotten!
