Beatrice Telsi Bandaranayake

Obituary of Beatrice Telsi Bandaranayake

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Beatrice Bandaranayake at the age of 78, on Sunday May 11th 2025, surrounded by her loving family at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus.

Beatrice is survived by her husband, Jagath Bandaranayake, and her children Sajith and Wasanthika, and her grandchildren Rajitha, Sajitha, and Alora.

The eldest child of Percy Rolland and Pearly Jayawardena, Beatrice was born in Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka in 1946. The family grew to add 4 brothers and 2 sisters that she always carried in her heart. Beatrice received her baccalaureate (Honours) in Economics from the University of Kelaniya and post-graduate diploma in Dramatic Arts from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and worked as a high school teacher and later as an early childhood educator and became a proud Canadian when she immigrated to Canada.

A devout Buddhist, Beatrice loved her family more than anything and found immense joy and purpose in being with those she cherished most. She is and was the best mother, always there to embrace her children with a home cooked meal and the best hugs that made you feel comforted and loved.

She will be deeply missed by the family and friends whose lives she touched.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate inpatient and ICU teams at the Ottawa General Hospital for their exceptional care and support.

A service will be held on Sunday May 18th 2025 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00  Noon at Cole Funeral Services & Pinecrest Remembrance, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to honour Beatrice make a donation to a charity of their choice that helps them remember her best.
