Obituary of Lieutenant Colonel Robert Alexander McLean, Retired

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lieutenant Colonel Robert Alexander McLean, Retired, who died peacefully surrounded by family on May 1, 2025. Born on February 27, 1939, in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Robert spent his childhood enjoying summers at the family cottage on Lac Opasatica— a place that remained dear to him throughout his life.

A proud graduate of the Royal Military College, Robert served with distinction in the Canadian Armed Forces for over 35 years. His dedication and leadership were recognized with the prestigious Order of Military Merit. Following his retirement, he embraced life fully, spending his time golfing, traveling with friends and family, and returning each summer to his beloved cottage.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Catherine; his children Rob (Jen) and Heather (Paul); and his cherished grandchildren Emily, Sarah, Alex, and Emma. He will also be fondly remembered by his nieces Carrie, Leslie, and Kelly. He was predeceased by his brother Gordie, sister Arleen, and niece Micheline.

Robert’s legacy of service, love, and quiet strength will live on in all who knew him.

Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa. Inurnment and Reception will follow.
