Obituary of Mary Audrey Caroline Robertson (Nee Fleming)

With heavy hearts but deep gratitude for her life, we announce the peaceful passing of Audrey on
20th April 2025 at 102. Beloved wife of the late Wilbert, mother to Elaine (Dr. David Armstrong)
and the late Lynne (Ron Millar). Nana to Dr. Laura Armstrong (Paul Hodson). Great-Nana to
Keriana, Caelan, and Karalia Hodson.
Audrey grew up with her two brothers, Lloyd and Gordon, on a farm near Carleton Place,
Ontario. She told unforgettable stories about farm life, adventures as a student in a one room
schoolhouse, and community church events. During WWII, she set off for teacher’s college in
Ottawa at age 17. Returning to Carleton Place upon graduation, she taught in a one-room
schoolhouse. In her early twenties, Audrey married Wilbert and they settled in Ottawa. She
became a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church from 1963 onwards and kept up with the
services virtually in her later years. She hosted weekly family dinners until the pandemic, dessert
being one of her amazing pies. A good euchre or crokinole game would follow, and given her
quiet determination, Audrey’s team was the one to be on. She was always game for anything—
baking, sleepovers, blind obstacle courses, checkers and cards, and running around playing
various sports with her granddaughter.
Audrey had a passion for life and a zest for storytelling. The story of your life is one we will
never forget, as it enriches us and inspires us. You are our hero, Nana.
A private family funeral service to celebrate a life well lived will be held. Donations in Audrey’s
