Obituary of Nicolas Pergantis

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Nicolas ‘Nick’ Pergantis on Thursday, March 6th, 2025 at the age of 94.

Beloved and dedicated husband of the late Georgia (Germanakos). Adoring and loving father to Ellen (Peter Anagnostopoulos). Immensely proud Papou to Nicholas and Alexis who were his greatest treasures.  Special Grandpa to Aleasha and Jacob.

Predeceased by his parents Panayioti and Eleni (Minakakis). Survived by his loving sister in laws, Kanella (late John Germanakos) and Toula (late Nick Germanakos).  He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by many special nieces, nephews in Canada, U.S, and Greece.

Nick was born in Amikles, Laconias, Greece.  At 23 yrs of age after serving in the Greek Army,  he left his parents and ventured by sea to immigrate to Canada for a better life.  He married his beloved Georgia and settled in Ottawa where they raised their only daughter, Ellen.  Nick’s commitment and love towards his family was immeasurable.  His grandchildren were his biggest pride and joy. He was known for his generous, kind nature and was always willing to help those in need.

His work ethic was unmatched both as a talented painting contractor and a successful business owner. Through sheer determination and perseverance, he successfully built his business, Pergantis Painting Contractors, and later on opened up his retail paint store, Plaza Paint & Wallpaper.  He was well known and loved throughout Ottawa’s business community for over 50 years.

Nick was a strong, determined, independent man who loved his home life until his final days. He loved going to church on Sundays and enjoyed socializing with his community. He loved tending to his home, and his beautiful flower/vegetable gardens.  It brought him joy to share all his bounty with his family, neighbours and friends.

A special thank you to doctors, nurses at the Ottawa Civic Hospital (Int. Med & Palliative teams) especially Dr. Dy who cared for Dad for many years.
