Leonard Kelly

Obituary of Leonard Kelly

Leonard Stephen Kelly at the age of 96 passed away peacefully, surrounded by love on July 30, 2026, at Thorncliffe Retirement Residence where he spent the last 8 months of his life.

Born in Wakefield, Quebec on December 26, 1929, to John Kelly and Margaret O’Rourke, Leonard was a man of faith, strength, compassion and humour whose love for life and devotion to his family were evident every day through his thoughtful actions and gentle words

He was predeceased by the love of his life, Catherine "Kay" (Smith), whom he met when they were young, growing up in Farrelton. They shared more than 44 years of marriage and are now reunited forever.

He is survived by his son Brent (the late Bertha) and daughter Christine Feagan (Mike) and was father to the late David. He is also survived by his many grandchildren, Derek (Selina), Brett (Amy), Brooke (Tom), Samantha (Attila) and Cynthia and the late Kevin. Proud great-grandfather to Beau, Mason, Luke, Joshua, Nathan, Myla, Faith, Brayden and Jamie.

He is also survived by his sister Margaret Farnard and sister-in-law Ruth Smith. Predeceased by his loving brothers and sisters Victor, Orrval, Anthony, Valmore, Jackie, Kay and Harvey. Leonard is survived by many nieces and nephews, countless friends, neighbours and colleagues over the years who were all a very important part of his life.

Len grew up helping on the family farm and left to work various jobs before he became a licensed plumber and pipefitter and started a family of his own. He was strongly committed to his church, St Martin de Porres and spent many decades as a Knights of Columbus member. He loved cars, trucks, trains, the cottage, reading, current events, a hearty laugh, an odd rum, sweets and most importantly his family.

Special thanks to the staff at Thorncliffe Place and the team from Carefor, for their care and compassion.
