Obituary of Hannelore Tardiff
Hannelore (Anna) Tardiff passed peacefully in her sleep on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the age of 90.
A celebration of Anna’s life will be held at Pinecrest Visitation Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. In keeping with Anna’s wishes, guests are invited to dress comfortably in bright clothing. The family will be decorating her urn with a few meaningful stickers, and visitors are welcome to bring one to add in her memory.
Anna was the beloved wife of the late Stan Tardiff. She leaves behind her daughters, Patricia and Elizabeth; her son-in-law, Carl; and her cherished granddaughters, Natasha and Meaghan. She was predeceased by her treasured granddaughter Desiree and was grateful for the gift of her great-grandchildren Deanna and Thomas.. Anna was also predeceased by her mother, Therese; her stepfather, Gerd; all of her siblings, including her special sisters Irma Wynnyk and Elfrieda Gonzales; and her dear friend Barbara Sharpe.
Born in Germany just before the outbreak of the Second World War, Anna’s early years were shaped by the hardship of that time. Yet what remained strongest in her memory was not only the struggle, but the strength of a family that stayed together. Guided by their mother, Therese, Anna and her five siblings fled to safety in a small caravan of covered wagons. At 17, she emigrated to Canada, where a new chapter of her life began.
At age 21, in Halifax, Anna met and married Stan, her husband of nearly 35 years. She devoted the next chapter of her life to her family, embracing both the joys and demands of being the wife of a naval officer (There’s No Wife Like It) and a loving mother. Life took them to both the east and west coasts before the family eventually made their home in Ottawa. Still, the small farm near Truro, Nova Scotia, where her mother lived, always remained especially close to her heart.
After raising her two daughters, Anna began working at a small shop in Bayshore Mall, where she soon became manager. She later spent many years with House of Knives at several Ottawa locations and also worked at a small gift shop in the Rideau Centre.
In retirement, Anna enjoyed annual trips with her dear friend Barb and continued to be a loving, steady, and positive presence in the lives of her granddaughters. A special shoutout to Lynn and friends at Bingoland South.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully appreciated.
