Obituary of Ponniah Manokeran

Manokeran Ponniah, 94, of Ottawa, Canada, passed away peacefully on May 21st, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Loving husband of Rajaluxmi Manokeran, he is survived by his four children Anuvinthan, Anurajan, Anuvina, and Anujeyan. Extended father of Asha, Manchusha, Arunagiri and Ragini. Doting grandfather of Sahana, Aaruthran, Shivana, Vibhishan, Aadharshan, and Chinmayi.

Mr. Manokeran was born on February 4th, 1932 in Colombo, Sri Lanka and completed his schooling at the Jaffna Central College. He later taught Chemistry and Biology at the Jaffna Central and also served as its hostel warden. He obtained a Bachelor’s of Science London degree from the Jaffna College and received his Master’s in chemical engineering at the Norwegian University of Science in Trondheim, Norway. He worked at the Valaichenani Paper Corporation as a chemist, and as General Manager at Siedles (Pvt) Limited. As a youngster, he enjoyed playing tennis and was a District Scout master. An avid reader, he also enjoyed writing. His writings have been published in the Sri Lanka newspapers on a variety of topics. He was knowledgeable on many topics and a well-rounded personality. Later in life, he enjoyed listening to music, reading, spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted member of the Sai Center in Ottawa.

Visitation will be held at the Highland Park Visitation Centre, 2037 McGee Side Road, Carp on Sunday, May 24th from 10am until the funeral prayers begin at 12noon.
