James Taggart

Obituary of James Arthur Taggart

November 15, 1940 - April 26, 2026

Passed away in hospital on April 26, 2026.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Joanne (née Braun); his son Michael (Susan); his cherished grandchildren, Brianna (Ben) and Brendan; and his great-granddaughter, Scottie. He is also survived by his sisters, Lorraine (Dave) Measor and Louise (Ted) Thompson; his nephews Colbourn Thompson of Kapuskasing and Alan Measor (Cathy-Anne) of Toronto; and his niece Susan Measor (Michael Parker), along with Colton and Clara Parker of Calgary.

Jim had a long and dedicated career as an English teacher and department head at the High School of Commerce and Nepean High School, and later taught at Algonquin College following his retirement. He loved teaching English and would debate grammar rules at length.

A devoted minor hockey coach for many years, Jim was also an avid golfer (Carleton Golf and Yacht and Cedarhill). Some of his favourite times were golfing during March Break in the Carolinas and enjoying winters in Destin, Florida after retirement. He shared his love of sports with his beloved “JoJo”. He loved his grandchildren and followed their pursuits with pride.

Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Raise a pint in his honour and remember a warm, caring, and wonderful man.
