Obituary of Dorothy Pineau (nee Wilson)
It is with great sadness that our family announces that Dorothy Pineau, 91 years of age, peacefully passed away on April 6, 2026, with her family by her side.
Dorothy was born in Houghton, Lancashire, England. While working at the Royal Preston Hospital as a medical secretary in 1958, she and a colleague embarked on an adventure when they immigrated to Canada after meeting two doctors on a Canadian residency who suggested they would do far better in Canada. Dorothy initially worked at Toronto’s Western Hospital before moving to Ottawa where, for 35 years, she proudly held the role of Executive Assistant to the Director of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre (previously located at what was then known as The Ottawa Civic Hospital).
Once settled in Ottawa, she met the love of her life Frank Pineau. On the day of Dorothy’s passing, she and Frank marked 53 years of marriage. Whether you knew Frank and Dorothy as close friends or as casual acquaintances, it was immediately apparent that they were meant to be together. They enjoyed a robust and busy social circle of friends that enriched their lives. They shared many travel adventures and spent countless weekends at their cottage on White Lake.
Dorothy is predeceased by her parents John and Margaret Wilson. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Frank, her step-daughters Lori Egan (Meredith Egan) and Brenda Walker (Charles Walker). Dorothy was a loving grandmother “Nanny Pineau” to Christopher Connolly (Gabby Gagnon), Cole Walker (Amanda Bird), Brendan Egan (Maya San Pedro), Justine Walker, Meredith Egan (Rebecca Enta), Siobhan Egan (Tevin Haye), Ciaran Egan (Sophie Halucha), and Declan Egan (Alyssa Borello), and great grandmother “Great Nanny Pineau” to Olive Connolly, and Harlem, Chicago, and Beckham Haye. Dorothy was a bright light and she will be deeply missed by our family.
Special thanks to the Ottawa Paramedic Service, the staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital Emergency Department and the 3rd Floor doctors and nurses who showed great compassion to Dorothy in her final days.
