Obituary of Sheila Lydon (née Horwell)
Sheila was born in York, Yorkshire, England, where she grew up. She was the daughter of Arthur Henry "Harry" Horwell and Bertha Bottomley. Sheila was the widow of John Lydon.
After passing the 11 plus, Sheila attended, on scholarship, the Queen Anne Grammar School for Girls in York. Following matriculation, she proceeded to Hull Municipal Training College, graduating with a Certificate in Education. Upon completion of her studies, Sheila began a career as an educator, first in York and then in London, culminating as a Headmistress.
In 1975, she immigrated to Canada with her husband, John, to be with her sister Mary (Horwell) Doherty. Shortly after her arrival in Canada, Sheila enrolled in Algonquin College and completed the RN program. Sheila is survived by her nephew David Doherty, her niece Joanne Haley, and her best friend Barb Campbell. We would like to thank the staff of Sarsfield Colonial Home for their expert care and compassion to Sheila in her final years. There will be no visitation.
