Obituary of Margarete Benhassine

Margarete Ben Hassine (née Schoggl) passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026.  

Margarete was born in Stuttgart, Germany on July 12,1935, the beloved daughter of the late Leopold and Hildegard Schoggl (Maier). 

Margarete enjoyed gardening,travelling and singing. She started her career in hotel management which she then left to start a family.  Later in life she worked as a teacher and translator.

Margarete  was predeceased by her husband Ahmed BenHassine, her brothers Gerhard, Hermann, Erich and Peter and her sister Christa.  

She is survived by her loving family: son Mondher (Susan), daughter Nadia (Darryl), Grandchildren Sonia, Yesmine, Aiden, Lauren and Adham.

An internment and Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Cole Funeral Services & Pinecrest Cemetery, 2500 Baseline Road,  in the spring with close family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her honour can be sent to The Ottawa Hospital Foundation.
