I am very sad to hear about Karen’s passing. She was such a great person and someone I really admired - her joy of life and contagious happiness were so inspirational to me. We worked together for a period of time and she was always such a great support and sounding board for me. My condolences to the family - she was a bright soul and it will not be the same without her.

I am saddened and devastated at the news of Karen passing. My condolences to her family and so many close friends. Karen hired me at Trailhead which turned into 6-7 years of laughs. We had lost touch since she moved west but occasionally we reached each other for birthdays or life milestones. Karen was such a bright star in the sky - shine on my friend.

The news of Karen's passing hit like a gut punch. I haven't seen Karen in far too long, but she was so welcoming when Kim, in the early days of our "courtship", introduced me to her friend Karen and their shared circle of friends from High School and University. Karen immediately struck me as smart, inclusive and welcoming, warm and generous, and wickedly funny. If Karen and "Proud Mary" were on the itinerary, you knew it was going to be a fun adventure. My thoughts are with her family, her friends and colleagues; we were all better, and lucky, for having Karen in our lives.

My deepest sympathy to Karen’s family,
Karen had a second family at Trailhead where for many years she managed our store at 1960 Scott St. She was our leader and social director. With a laugh and smile she lead our team through each season. Between seasons four of us squeezed a canoe trip down the Crow River in Algonquin in early November. Ice in the pots frost on the tents, temperatures that tested your three season sleeping bag and cold whitewater on the Petawawa challenged our sense of humor but Karen kept us smiling.

Karen was a great friend during high school and university. She taught me so much: how to do a backflip on a trampoline, how to laugh so hard Sprite came out of my nose, how to paddle without getting soaked, how to change a tire, how to talk about a book for hours, and most importantly, what shoe to wear with an outfit. She was a kind and generous soul and to hear she’s gone is incredibly sad. My sympathies to Karen’s family…she will be so missed.

I’m very sorry that Karen has passed away. She was full of life and joy. I went to middle and high school with her, and also saw her were she worked. My condolences to her family and friends. It’s not fair that she left you too soon.

My sincere condolences to all of Karen’s family and loved ones.
I was terribly saddened to hear that Karen had passed.
I had the absolute privilege of playing “old lady soccer” with Karen for over 10 years. Although we stopped playing years ago, she would still pop into my mind. She was hilarious, fair, encouraging and supportive. She was a team player, and she was a friend. If our team was down, you’d better believe she would pop us right back up again. She’d make us laugh, and she’d remind us why we were there. Karen was a light. She was introspective and kind. I haven’t seen her in years, but I can picture her smile, I can hear her laugh, and I can feel the positivity that emanated from her. These things, and her positive light, will always remain with me. She was a beautiful person who will never be forgotten. Please know, by simply being her, she made this world a better place.
Sincerely,
Shauna Davidson

So many memories of laughing, smiling, learning and teaching from our Sport Chek days, but most importantly memories of time spent with a special person. Remembering back when Karen insisted I go kayaking for the first time, she knew full well that I was not particularly fond of water sports. But yet as only Karen could, she convinced me to get into the kayak, smile and enjoy the adventure. We had an amazing day!
A true friend and colleague that will forever be remembered :)

In 2011 Fischer ski limited and I invited Karen to attend the Nordic World ski championships in Norway. She was the hardgoods buyer at Trailhead and she loved Fischer skis and Swix products, so off we went. What a great week, Canada won its first men's gold medal there, much to the shock of the Norwegians so we partied, laughed (Karen was the world champion of smiles and laughter) and danced! Throughout her career she always pushed business my way and was such a delight to know and work with. A huge ray of sunshine. Shocked and saddened.
