Alamelu Mani

Obituary of Alamelu Mani

September 6, 1939 – February 7, 2026

Alamelu Mani, aged 86, peacefully left for her heavenly abode in the early hours of February 7th, 2026, in Ottawa. An exemplary wife and mother, she spent her 55 years of married life in Canada, mostly in Toronto and partly in Ottawa. She was the daughter of the late Kothamangalam Subbu, a renowned South Indian author.

After her marriage to Ganapathy Raja Mani, she lived a productive life, combining the best of Indian culture and the western way of life. She worked, was a worthy companion to her husband in managing the family, raised two sons of great character, and participated in community activities, earning a lifetime achievement award from the Toronto Bharathi Kala Mandram.

Alamelu was a vibrant presence for those that were blessed to know her.  Her love of life, music, gardening and Tamil culture were evident throughout her life.   Her enduring strong connection with the entire Subbu family was a cornerstone of her daily life - whether in person, on daily phone calls or the always buzzing family WhatsApp group.

She is survived and deeply missed by her husband and sons, Arun (Seema) and Mahesh (Deepali), and her six grandchildren (Simran, Riya, Krishna, Shailen, Dhiren, Tesh).

In lieu of flowers, please honour her memory by giving someone you love a heartfelt hug.
