Obituary of Grafton Spooner
Grafton Everick Spooner was born in St. James Trinidad on May 28, 1944 to Sheila Campbell and Gordon Spooner. He took his last breath in Ottawa, Ontario on February 1, 2026.
As a child, Grafton had a variety of hobbies from playing cricket to raising messenger pigeons. From a young age until his death, Mr. Spooner mentored young people from Trinidad, USA & Canada. In any area he served, whether at church with the Pathfinders, and (Divine Connection ) choir, as a manager at work, or within his community. He was a good listener and was one to be trusted for sound advice.
He began his nursing education and career in England. He finished his bachelor’s degree of nursing and got his Bachelors of Art in English from Carleton University and a Masters of Business Administration from Wayne State University. Mr. Spooner shared a beautiful life with his late wife, Jacqueline White (2008), with whom he had 2 children: Nataki Edwards (Samuel) and Akil Spooner (Sophie). After retiring from Government of Canada as the Manager of the Government and External Relations Section HIV/AIDS Policy, Coordination and Programs Division; you could find Grafton vacationing in Jamaica, baking bread, tending to his garden, playing table tennis, slinging dominoes and arguing with the television while watching American politics.
A soft spoken, patient loving man, Grafton loved the arts. He was a photographer and wrote a collection of poems. Grafton had a smooth, soothing tenor, he would showcase his voice when he sang for churches. In the late 1980s, he went on tour with a violinist and a pianist and sang for congregations all over Nova Scotia. Grafton leaves behind: two children Akil Spooner and Nataki Edwards, two younger brothers: Kent Spooner(Molly), Keith Spooner, two nieces Nyla Harter, Kyla Bowen and 1 nephew Alden Spooner, his aunt Bernice Campbell and many cousins. His pride and joy were his 3 grandchildren: Ondraya (Zen) Spooner, Hannah Spooner and Jonathan Edwards.
Grafton was a friend to all, and will be deeply missed by all.
