Obituary of Sunita Patil

Sunita Patil, age 79, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at 3:15 p.m. in Ottawa, Canada. She was the beloved wife of Arjun Patil and a devoted mother to Ira (Jagdish), Anjali (Philippe), and Sam. She was a loving grandmother to Aaryan and Vanaaisha.

Born in India to the late Shahu Salvi and Kamal Salvi, Sunita immigrated to Canada in the early 1970s, accompanying her husband while he pursued his PhD in Physics at the University of Western Ontario. She held a degree in Economics.

Sunita’s life was centered around her family and friends. She possessed remarkable spirit, warmth, and resilience. As a mother, she created a home filled with laughter and love, raising her children with humor, care, and steadfast encouragement to follow their passions.

She was known for her immaculate home, refined taste in clothing and jewelry, and appreciation for the finer things in life—qualities her children proudly inherited. An exceptional cook and gracious host, her dinner parties were both elegant and memorable.

Sunita was a champion of the arts, and committed to community service, volunteering with numerous organizations in both India and Canada throughout her life. She was deeply religious and regularly volunteered at the Hindu Temple in Ottawa.

Sunita Patil was the heart of her family and a guiding light in the lives of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her love, generosity, and grace.
