I am sorry to recently learn of Tonys passing. Please accept a belated offering of my deepest sympathy. My first introduction to Tony (Sgt Skinner at the time )was in early 1977 when he instructed our recruit class on how to properly do point duty. As a young constable I recall that I was quite impressed with his professional presence. Throughout my career, every subsequent interaction with him only served to confirm that positive first impression. May he rest in peace .

Clarence and I were shocked and saddened to hear of Tony's death in January. We heard last evening, too late to attend his celebration of life. Jill and family, you have all been in our thoughts and we offer deepest condolences
My husband and I are out of the country at this time. We travel 5 months every year. I am so saddened that I won't physically be present to celebrate Tony and his very real place in my heart. Please do know that there will absolutely be some form of "aura" by the name of Dani that will be on Jill, Tony jr and Meghan's shoulders and wandering around hugging you and smiling from ear to ear .. not in a creepy way.. but full of love and memories of a man and his sense of humor and appreciation of people!
Jill, you and Tony were prominent in my career and on a certain level in my personal life, as we bumped along our merry ways, we always weaved in and out of places, events & hallways and always made time for a hug, a smile or a story.
Breathe a deep deep breath and please, allow those of us who truly care and love you from a distance and from right there beside you, take this weight from you, so you can just.."be" !
Tony was, of course, on my board interview in late 1987 and seemed to revel in my "hairstylist-rookie" responses to scenario testing. The likes of leaving an officer on lunch all day therefore others had no back up, "killing" an officer and hanging up on an eye witness observing a crime by saying a very polite and kind "well, thank you very much for your call .bye bye"- click!
I could see him at the end of the table smiling and trying not to laugh out loud while then, Staff Sgt Fred Ramsey (God rest his soul) berated me within inches of my face. My reaction was a smile and a shoulder shrug with the comment " well, I'm sure you have other officers" WOW!
Thinking I absolutely trashed this interview, I was just happy I was able to experience a REAL board interview for the first time and figured I would try something other than cutting hair, another time!
Tony saw something in me, that day, he knew was a good fit for dispatch and he was right! 32 years later retirement has been a blessing. God speed to a great man, gentleman and officer - I call "friend"! With all my love, Dani Baribeau

Jill, Meghan, Sean, and family,
May the warmest of memories of time spent together help ease your pain and hurting heart. Jill you gave Tony your 1000% and ensured that he was never alone as he fought this battle, you gave him all that he needed, your presence as did Meghan and Sean. There is no doubt in my mind that Tony will be greeted in the spirit world with all the warmth and kindness he showered on you all and so many of us while walking on this earth. He was a great and just man who truly cared about his family, his friends and all others. His spirit will most definitely guide you all in a good way moving forward.

To my lovely Uncle Tony
Some people leave quietly, but the love they gave never does.
You are one of those people.
You were kindness in its purest form. The kind of person who made others feel safe, seen, and loved without ever asking for anything in return. Wherever you went, you brought warmth with you. People felt better simply by being near you — and I was one of them.
Even though an ocean stood between us, you were always present in my life. Distance never diminished what we shared. In your own way, you were there for me — with your love, your care, your generosity, and the quiet strength you carried. You meant more to me than words can truly explain, and you did so much for me, in ways both visible and unseen. I will carry that with me always.
You loved people deeply. You loved when the family was together, when laughter filled the room, and when your voice rose in song. You loved singing those Irish songs that carried warmth, memory, and joy — songs that brought people closer, that filled the space with life. Those moments mattered to you, and because of that, they will always matter to me. They are some of my most precious memories.
Your absence leaves a space that feels impossibly large. It leaves a deep emptiness for the family you leave behind in Canada and in England — for your wife, your children, your sisters, and all those who loved you so deeply. I know the weight of this loss will be heavy for them, and my thoughts and my heart are with them today, and always. The silence feels heavier without your voice, without your songs, without your gentle way of being. And yet, even in your absence, you are still here — in my memories, in my heart, and in the love you gave so freely.
I wish I could be there today, to honor you, to stand beside your family, and to feel close to you one last time in this special moment. Even from afar, my heart is with you, and with everyone who is celebrating your life today.
This is not a goodbye meant to close a door. It is a goodbye filled with gratitude, with love, and with everything I couldn’t say while you were here. Thank you for every memory you gave me, for every smile, every laugh, every moment of kindness. Thank you for the warmth you brought into my life, for the love you shared so effortlessly, and for the way you made me feel seen and cared for. These gifts will stay with me forever.

I have so many wonderful memories of you. You were such a kind and loving man, and you showed that kindness to me and my family in countless ways over the years. I will never forget you coming to the hospital when I was in labour because you couldn’t sleep, worried about me, showing up in the middle of the night just to make sure I was okay.
You included me in so many of your family gatherings and always made me feel welcomed and loved. The way you cared for my mother is something I will hold in my heart forever. There will not be a day that goes by that I won’t miss you.
Knowing that your name will be carried on in my grandson brings me comfort, and I know it will bring a smile to my face every time I see him. I love you, Tony. You stepped up to be the father I always needed, and I am forever grateful for everything you were in my life.
